📱How to Shoot a Testimonial with a Smart Phone
- Shoot in a quiet location like the coach’s/group leader’s office. If it’s too loud, we won’t be able to hear the interview.
- Keep the background clean.
- When filming avoid:
- Direct sunlight
- Bright fluorescent indoor lights
- Putting your subject up against a window/window as a background.
- Your camera should always be horizontal. You can stabilize the shot by:
- Keeping your arms tucked into your body
- Keeping two hands on the phone at all times
- If you have a tripod, use it
- Frame your subject
- Level with your subject
- Get close - Shoot your subject from the chest up
- Leave a little headroom. The subject's eye should be about two-thirds of the way up the screen.
- Direct subject to look into the camera when speaking
- Never use the digital zoom-in function of your camera. Move closer to your subject if necessary.
💻 How to Shoot a Testimonial via Video Conference (Zoom)
- In the upper right corner of the Zoom Meeting window, find "View" and select "Speaker"
- In addition to the initial tips about location selection for ideal audio and video (see above), avoid obnoxious headphone colors, if used, as they are visually distracting.
- Pin speaker using the three dots on the speaker's window - Select "Pin"
- Turn off your camera
- Recording meeting - Select "record a seperate audio file for each participant"
❓Sample Questions
These will get your started, but of course feel free to ask additional questions as you see fit: be curious and use what you about about the subject and program to drive the conversation. This will allow you to delve deeper into why they are successful in both fundraising and program management.
- What is your name, job title, and school or program name?
- Why were you initially interested in [product]?
- What has [the product] allowed your program to do that you weren’t able to before? What difference has [the product] made for your program?
- What specific feature of [the product] or two you’ve found valuable/use often? If haven’t used it yet, what is a feature or two that they are most excited about?
- Are you getting anything out of it that you didn't expect? Any pleasant surprises?
- What is the biggest win of the tool?
- What would you be doing if you didn’t have this tool?
- Is there a time-saving benefit?
- Tell me about your experience using Snap! Mobile?
- What would you tell someone who is considering using Snap! Mobile?
